Citigrass unleashes their second burnin' record: SERPENT IN THE GRASS
Serpent in the Grass launches the diversely talented New York City quintet, Citigrass, to the forefront of the new alternative bluegrass scene. From the haunting choral introduction of "Starin' at the Moon," through the rowdy traditional bluegrass number "High on a Mountain," this new release stands apart from other offerings in the bluegrass genre.
Serpent in the Grass is urbane, funny, musically complex, and full of excitement. It is bluegrass and much more. The title track, "Serpent in the Grass" is a Middle-Eastern influenced torrent unmatched in the genre and features soaring instrumental solos and unleashes the unique vocal talents of lead singer Noah Chase. "Brooklyn Bound" written by Kenji Bunch (Fiddler, Violist and renowned classical composer) exhorts the listener to get outta town and the Big Apple is all abuzz for his "Ballad of Jeff Van Gundy" in tribute to the beloved, disheveled former coach of the NY Knicks. The attitude-filled 'Harder Faster" and barroom ballad "Ain't Gonna Change" and are sure to become bluegrass radio standards. The beautiful, historical "The Grey Fox" is a nod to the historical Southern general Robert E. Lee. Filled with stellar vocal harmony, sublime dobro and fiddle, and groundbreaking banjo work, "Serpent in the Grass" is a crossover bluegrass work bred to entertain bluegrass and rock fans alike.
